Many native and introduced species of the Mustard family including the following: garden vegetables cabbage, cauliflower, kale, mustard greens, radish; other nasturtium and mustard . The green larvae are economically important pests on cruciferous crops, particularly cabbage, and chemical pesticide treatments or treatments with a microbial insecticide are often required to bring populations down to economically tolerable levels.

Life Cycle: Cabbage Whites are one of the first butterflies to be seen in the Spring, and one of the last to be seen in the Fall. They fly from late February to mid-November.After mating, female Cabbage Whites lay single eggs on the undersides of host plants. Host plants are plants that the caterpillars need to eat. Cabbage White caterpillars eat plants from the Mustard family which includes cabbages and radishes.Caterpillars begin eating as soon as they hatch. They are green with a light yellow stripe. Damage :Cabbage White Butterfly are considered a pest because they feed on cabbages and other plants found in vegetable gardens, such as cauliflower, brussel sprouts, broccoli, radishes and turnips.

Most butterfly species serve as pollinators to a variety of plant species upon which they nectar. Larvae of the Cabbage White Butterfly have a mutualistic relationship with ants. Studies have shown that larvae tended by these ants have a higher survival rate, most likely due to protection by the ants against larval predators.
